Wild skies today with rain.

We got a little sun this morning, then....

It started looking like this.....

And then like this..... soon after,  much rain fell on us and our outdoor project.

Morning mist turns into beautiful skies in the afternoon.

A nice hike

Foggy and pretty in the morning.

Everything is wet.

It got nice in the afternoon so we headed out for a walk.
Love these ferns up Winnie Walker Road.

View from the top of a surprisingly steep hill!

Glendale is so wonderful, we can get to places like this by walking a few minutes from our door.

We marvel at how the fires of last summer burned some trees and not others right next to them. Hopefully this area will regrow and flourish again.

Weather Change

After a beautiful spell of warm sunny days, the weather has taken a turn, these photos were taken before noon this morning!
So far, not a drop but these clouds do promise rain.

More gorgeous weather in Glendale!

We start with fog and it quickly burns off!

  Glendale is incredible.

Warm and wonderful weather!

It is warm and sunny today, see upper left corner of Wunderground map below.  60 degrees, yay for Glendale!
Meanwhile, Grants Pass, Central Point and Medford are in the 30's and foggy.

A few minutes ago, Toby made a big shadow.

Then he followed me all over the yard. He's like a giant kitten.

Sun.

Sun on the weather station.

Sun on redwood, making it glow.

Sunset in the Sunset

Incredible photo from the Sunset district of San Francisco, taken yesterday by my best pal Susie. She said this only lasted a few minutes then gone. So gorgeous! This photo reminds me of Jessica Dunne's beautiful paintings of the same area.

Back here in Glendale, the roll cloud is back.

A little touch of blue sky, then rain.

Such a beautiful grey-blue!

The morning fog lifts off our nearby hill.

Spot tries to keep her feet dry. Today she saw hummingbirds and clicked at them. She soon forgets about wanting dry feet and frolics in the wet grass.

Day after Christmas

Another pretty day in Glendale!

Many hills around Glendale were destroyed by fires this last summer.  It's a horrendous scene.

Trees are burned for mile after mile after mile. I look for signs of life but found none in this area.

Equinox tomorrow!

Every year I am thrilled when we get to the winter equinox.  It is a turning point and spring is coming, even if way way off. Every day we get a few more minutes.

Wednesday: Sun making an appearance.

The big malevolent ice cube in the pond still holds my bamboo captive.

Ice fog devours our hill.

Beautiful purple sky in the afternoon.
Note the bird in the center tree, a resident crow I think.

Below: Dramatic clouds reach for each other overhead, and a roll cloud is crawling up over the far hill.

Thursday:  We're in for it now.  Masses of mammata clouds promise bunches of rain.

Friday: The pond monster has finally let bamboo free!

My new favorite site

The site has an earth wind map that is interactive and in real time. It is visually beautiful, the map is mesmerizing. I've learned more about wind from this map than any meteorological text. This map is art.

Don't worry, there's no spam or anything objectionable there. It is part of the Global Forecast System, collecting data from
NCEP The National Center for Environmental Prediction, NOAA The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the US National Weather Service.

Brr 27 degrees!

It was too cold to go outside when we got up this morning, so this photo was taken from my kitchen window. Sorry about reflections!

Later, the ice fog is burning off the hillside rapidly.

A very nice day is at hand!

Spot walks on the ice pond. I nabbed her once she got near
the edge. Out in the middle, it is still several inches thick.

Eat your heart out Grants Pass and Medford, while you are socked in all day with freezing fog, we are having THIS!

Blah day

Ever so slowly, the day warms up and the ice melts off.

Bamboo still trapped!

Saturday, December 14, 2013

It's melting!

The loose iceberg still won't let go of my bamboo.
It's too thick to break up with a stick.
The cats do not venture out on it.

Our northerly hillside engulfed in icy fog this morning.

Looking south, the fog and clouds mix with wood smoke.

The back yard is looking green again, the weeds have really perked up!
Apple branch is full of buds already!

A blob of melty ice in the yard looks like a reindeer.  Or My Little Pony.
